ESOL
English for Speakers of Other Languages

The ESOL program is for students who need to improve their english skills before starting a degree at Keiser University.

The program focuses on improving students’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills while also teaching them academic english. It is not a degree program, but it prepares students for a degree of their choice.

Students with very little or no experience with english can start the ESOL program. Students are given a placement test at the beginning of the course to determine their level. They must pass each level with a 70% or higher in order to continue to the next level.

Curriculum Highlights

  • Small class size allows for personalized attention and interaction
  • In addition to classroom learning, classes include group discussions and field trips that allow students to practice their conversational english
  • Eight-week classes designed to prepare you to communicate competently in english
  • Students that pass level 5 with a 70% or higher are exempt from taking the TOEFL exam to start their degree program
  • Curriculum is geared towards preparing students to be successful in any academic program
  • Level 5 students receive 3 credit hours and are also able to start taking classes towards their degree

Prerequisites for Major Courses Include:

  • ESOL Level 1: Placement test score
  • ESOL Level 2: Successful completion of Level 1 or placement test score
  • ESOL Level 3: Successful completion of Level 2 or placement test score
  • ESOL Level 4: Successful completion of Level 3 or placement test score

Students successfully completing ESOL fourth level may be considered for admission to Keiser University degree programs provided they meet the necessary admissions criteria.
